Doctrine and Covenants 121, or here's the link to read it online: http://scriptures.lds.org/dc/121/45#45
THIS HAD TO HAVE BEEN MY FAVORITE EXPERIENCE ON OUR WHOLE TRIP. The sister missionary who gave us the tour was simply amazing. I learned so much from her.
This was one of the 46 prisons that Joseph Smith was sent to since the First Vision. He was here for nearly 6 months.
It was VERY cold, filthy, and hard to breathe, as there were only two small, barred windows. They were very hungry and sick.
The walls were four feet thick-- with the logs, loose rock, and stone surrounding them, escape was impossible. Poor Joseph sat and suffered here for so long. Here he received revelation from God, and he wrote many letters to his sweet Emma.
There is so much to learn about this place. Read about it yourself. It's just so wonderful: http://josephsmith.net/josephsmith/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=b2d3da7
